Hugo Chavez Regime He was elected President in 1999 and remained in office until his death from cancer in 2013.

Social Unrest Today Venezuela’s economy has been worsening for the last few years, which many say is due to the Chavez and Maduro administrations’ economic policies. Venezuela’s opposition party has won elections and gained control of the parliament (majority). They are starting to try and remove Chavez’s hand-picked successor, Nicolás Maduro, from power. Recently, images of Chavez were removed from the Capitol building, and opposition leaders are trying to free those who were jailed by the Chavez and Maduro administrations.

Comida de Venezuela Arepas are probably the most well-known Venezuelan food. Arepa is a flatbread made of ground maize dough or cooked flour prominent in the cuisine of Colombia and Venezuela. They are often stuffed with meat.
