Chris-TREE-anity The three main branches of Christianity (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant) now exist side by side and all three are rightly called Christianity. Anglican is Protestant

The Catholic Church was number 1 Everyone that was Christian was Catholic Over time, there have been disagreements about beliefs, leadership, organisation and practices, so new groups formed.

The Orthodox church First to break away from the Catholics in 1054CE Known as the ‘Great Schism’ Main factors: attempt by Rome to force all Christians to use Latin as their religious language. Mistreatment of Orthodox Christians led to the creation of the Roman Catholic Church

The protestant movement There became a divide between the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholics. All was well until….. 1517….A new movement grew and ‘protested’ against Rome. This is known as the protestant movement. I’m more powerful than the Pope! European countries set up churches of their own. The protestant movement 1536... Meanwhile in Britain, the Church of England was born, with Henry VIII as its head. WHY? As time progressed, disagreements occurred and new groups started to form, these were known as ‘non-conformists.

Roman Catholic Found worldwide- the largest Christian group Orthodox Church Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox Protestant Church Church of England, Non-conformists such as Methodists, Baptist.

Model Answer Q4 One Christian teaching is that God was made present in the world through Jesus. In Luke 24:39 it says ‘Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have’. This shows that God can also be human in the form of Jesus and is supported by the Nicene Creed. A second Christian teaching about God is he is also in Spirit form. In John 4:24 it says ‘God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth’. This shows the Spirit comes from God and Jesus and is supported by the Nicene Creed. 13/01/2019
