Comparatives

The comparative is used to show the difference between two things: Bob is TALLER THAN Sue.

Comparatives Adjectives with more than two syllables use: MORE / LESS. Physics is MORE DIFFICULT THAN Geography.

Comparatives We use “AS...AS” to show that there is NO difference between two things: Mary is AS CLEVER AS her brother.

We form the superlative of short adjectives with: EST Superlatives We form the superlative of short adjectives with: EST It is THE HOTTEST day of the year.

Superlatives With long adjectives we use: MOST She bought THE MOST EXPENSIVE ring in the shop.

Double Comparatives usually show a relation of: CAUSE and EFFECT. The MORE you read, the BETTER you write. Cause: read Effect: write
