How much money (coins) does it take to sink a boat? Scientific Question How much money (coins) does it take to sink a boat?

Backround I picked this topic because whenever I see a boat I wonder have much weight it carries. Also, a container weighs more than 2 tons. I went on a boat and wonder how doesn’t the boat sink with people on the boat.

Hypothesis If I put 5 pennies on the boat, then it will sink to the bottom of the water.

Variables Independent Variable- amount of money (coins) Dependent Variable- how much the boat sank in Inches with ruler Constant Variable- size of foil, amount of water, put weight in the same spot

Procedure put water in container make boats place boat in water put money on boat (coins) put the ruler in water measure how much the boat sank in inches redo steps 4-6 for other boats

Data Test A Boat With Pennies Test B Boat With Nickels Test C Boat With Quarters How much it sank: 3.7 Inches How much it sank: 3.9 Inches How much it sank: 4 Inches

Conclusion How much money (coins) does it take to sink a boat? My experiment was sinking a boat I had to measure how much the boat sank. I added money (coins) to the middle of the boat. Test A boat sank 3.7 inches in the water. Test B boat sank 3.9 inches in the water. Test C boat sank 4 inches. My data did not support my hypothesis because it only took 3 pennies to sink the boat. I learned that aluminium foil doesn’t take that much money (coins) to sink a boat. The errors that occurred are not making the same way and the size of the boat. The problems I had with the lab was putting the money (coins) in the middle of the boat. I would make a bigger boat and make the boat a different way like add more foil on the boat to cover so no water gets inside the boat.
