Fig. 1 PET–CT findings. Panel A shows maximum intensity projection (MIP) of PET of the whole body. The MIP shows high uptake of 18-FDG in the lung, uterus, and left adrenal gland. Panels B and C show PET–CT of the lung and uterus, respectively. In the lung and uterus, marked uptake of 18-FDG is observed as shown in MIP. Fig. 2 Histopathological and cytological findings. Under bronchoscopy, biopsy sample (A) and BALF sample for cytology (B) are obtained. In endometrial curettage sample for histology (C) and endometrial brushing specimen for cytology (D) are obtained. Panels A and C show hematoxylin and eosin stain. Panels B and D show Papanicolaou stain. Panels A and C show similar adenocarcinoma cells with ICLs (shown by arrows). ICLs are obvious in cytological specimens (B and D). Bars in panels A–D indicate 100μm. Cancer Treatment and Research Communications 2015 4, 134-137DOI: (10.1016/j.ctrc.2015.08.007) Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd Terms and Conditions

Fig. 3 Direct sequencing of PCR products of EGFR gene exon 21 using genomic DNA from lung biopsy and endometrial biopsy. Panels A and B show the results in lung biopsy material. Panels C and D show those in endometrial biopsy material. Lane 1 shows the result for GAPDH primers (214 base pair (bp) fragment), and lane 2 shows that for EGFR gene exon 21 primers. As shown in lane 2 in panels A and C, 348bp fragments are amplified. Panels B and D show the results of direct sequencing of the amplified fragments in lung biopsy and endometrial biopsy samples, respectively. As shown in both panels B and D, hemizygous/homozygous L858R mutation at exon 21 of EGFR gene is observed. In panels A and C, M means 100bp ladder markers.
