ALWAYS BRING YOUR MATERIALS TO CLASS, please. Students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. Students will practice all forms of writing, edit papers for clarity, engaging language, and correct use of conventions and mechanics. Students will read from multiple genres such as stories, dramas, novels, and poetry. Required Materials: 📎📎 Blue or black pens Post-Its Space in a binder to hold papers. Spiral/Composition Notebook to be left in the classroom. Mrs.Schwanke’s Classroom Missing/Late Major Grades Deadline work constitutes projects or assignments assigned with more than a week to work on it. These assignments must be turned in by their deadline. If a student is sick on the day of the deadline, absent due to being out for extracurricular activities, or absent for reasons beyond his/her control, the assignment MUST BE EMAILED to your teacher by the end of the day on the due date. All late work will follow the school late work policy. 10 points per day, up to 4 days. After that, it’s a ZERO.. Grading Scale Daily Work Major Grades @LaceySchwanke Missing/Late Daily Grades It is YOUR responsibility to get your late work when you are absent. All late work will be in the “Absent?” Box. Again, we will follow the school late work policy. 4 days, 10 points per day. After that, it’s a ZERO. In-Class work is due BY THE END OF CLASS. You may not turn it in by the end of the day, or during another class. This means you cannot turn it in LATE. If you fail Deadline Work and/or an assessment, you have THREE DAYS to come in for REASSESSMENT or CORRECTIONS.

At the BEGINNING of class... 5x5 Be in your seat when the bell rings and working on what’s on the board. If you ARE NOT IN THE ROOM by the bell, you WILL BE MARKED TARDY. Tardies will be locked out and will need to report to the PAC. (A216) A Bell Ringer/Instructions will be on the board as you walk into class. There will ALWAYS be something for you to do when you come in. Sharpen pencils, find pens, and get out books AT THE START of class. There are extra supplies while they last, DO NOT ask me for a pencil in the middle of class. We will follow the 5x5 EVERY DAY. Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom the first 5 minutes or last 5 minutes. Questions? Refer to 5x5 Poster. Behavior You are a young adult, so I expect you to be kind. Be kind to your classmates. Be kind to your teacher. Be kind to yourself. CCHS Rules are in the Student Handbook. You will be held to these rules. Schwanke D-Hall Students who receive a D-Hall Receipt will need to report to my room within 48 hours. D-Halls are during lunch or before/after school. At D-Hall you will be given an Essay. Your ticket out of MY D-Hall is to complete this essay. No, it is not fun. Don’t get a D-Hall. Discipline 1. Verbal warning 2. Mandatory detention + Parent Phone Call 3. Conference with student and parent 4. Referral to office Cell Phones and Devices Plagiarism Cell phones are NOT PERMITTED in our class unless stated. On days phones are allowed a BYOD sign will be posted on the window. You will get ONE WARNING to put your device away. After that it WILL BE TAKEN UP and sent to the AP. There is a charging station in this room, you may use it. HOWEVER, you are not to get up during class and all devices plugged in must stay in until the end of class. Use the station at your own risk. I am not responsible for lost/missing/stolen devices. DO NOT SHARE YOUR WORK. All group work will be EXPLICITLY STATED. Copying by hand or on the computer is plagiarism. Not giving credit to the original author is plagiarism. ANY STUDENT involved in plagiarism is in the WRONG and will receive IMMEDIATE ZEROS. That includes the student who gave you their handout.
