Compulsory Health Check Students from countries having a high occurrence of tuberculosis are obliged to undergo tuberculosis testing if they intend to stay more than three months in Norway. Countries with high occurrence are based on estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO). You will receive a letter in the mail You are NOT allowed to study without undergoing the check
Insurance issues Length of stay? 0-3 months – insurance from home 3-6 months – insurance from home, but you can apply for voluntary membership in Norwegian National Insurance Scheme 12-more months (2 semesters) – automatically member when getting Norwegian ID

Need to see a doctor? In the beginning of your stay Staying maximum 1 semester Staying 2 semesters or more – ID number – Personal Doctor offered by Helfo In the beginning of your stay – use the emergency clinic next to the university hospital. Since you have no Norwegian ID number – you can use the clinic durinc daytime – before 16:00 Staying maximum 1 semester – this will be your best option throughout your stay Staying 2 semesters or more – ID number – Personal Doctor offered by Helfo
Personal Doctor (GP) 3 step process: Norwegian ID Number MinID online application for pin codes Sign up for a GP Students registered with NNIS who are here for longer than 6 months, will be invited to sign up with a personal doctor by Helfo.
Emergency Consultations Regular clinics hold open a certain number of emergency appointments Call your general practitioner’s clinic when it first opens in the morning (usually 08:30) to arrange one of these appointments
Emergency Medical Clinic Legevakta For students who haven’t been assigned a personal doctor For everyone in Tromsø outside of regular medical clinic hours (4pm-8am). Mon-Fri, weekends, and holidays. Drop-in system – not necessary to call them. Ambulance: 113 13.01.2019
