Minimum core work – beyond SPAG Element Multilingualism and the role of the first language in the acquisition of additional languages. Issues that arise when learning another language or translating from one language to another. task will enable trainee teachers to: · acknowledge and respect languages other than English; · encourage the use of other languages in the classroom; · reflect on their own approach to error and meaning; · develop approaches which help learners make best use of their first/other languages in learning new language and literacy skills in English.
Language awareness Classroom language / communication – “grading language” Awareness of colloquialisms, regional varieties. Beginner English is not the same as beginner learner. Learners with PhDs. Correction of spoken language (including pronunciation) is as important as correcting SPAG.
