Public Hearing Proposed Changes to Tuition Rates October 31, 2018; 3:00 p.m. Willis Library 250H November 6, 2018; 5:30 p.m. General Academic Building 104

Process Established Tuition and Fee Review Committee in Spring 2018. Represented academic and administrative areas. Completed various financial assessments. Reviewed all tuition and fees assessed by UNT. Completed student surveys and focus groups. Compared UNT costs to other colleges and universities. Compared UNT fixed rate tuition plan to others. Submitted recommendations to UNT Administration for proposed changes beginning with the Fall 2019 semester.

Proposed Changes New Fixed Rate Tuition Plan Graduate Board Designated Tuition Increase New Differential Tuition Rates Scheduled to be presented at the UNT System Board of Regents meeting next week.

Save and Soar Tuition Plan New Fixed Rate Tuition Plan

Save and Soar Tuition Plan Proposed new Fixed-Rate Tuition Plan beginning in the Fall 2019 semester. Plan details are based on feedback from the UNT community and a thorough evaluation of the current Eagle Express Tuition Plan. Save and Soar is designed to encourage continuous enrollment and timely graduation. Participants can save money, reduce potential loan debt and take classes during the Summer semester and Winter Session at a discounted rate.

Save and Soar Tuition Plan - Details Available to incoming first-time freshmen and undergraduate transfer students beginning Fall 2019. Students are provided an opportunity to opt-in to the program before the payment deadline in their first semester. Participants will pay a slightly higher amount for Board Designated Tuition and any applicable Differential Tuition. No more than 2% over the traditional Board Designated Tuition rate and Differential Tuition rates their first semester. The Board Designated Tuition and any applicable Differential Tuition rates will be locked-in and not increase for 4 years (12 consecutive semesters).

Save and Soar Tuition Plan - Discounts $100 discount per semester credit hour in Board Designated Tuition in the Winter Session for students enrolled for 15 or more semester credit hours the previous Fall semester. $100 discount per semester credit hour in Board Designated Tuition in the Summer semester for students enrolled for 15 or more semester credit hours the previous Spring semester. First-time freshmen living in UNT Housing and enrolled in at least 15 semester credit hours during the previous Spring semester will receive a 40% discount in housing rates during their first Summer semester.

No Impact for Eagle Express Participants Participants will continue to receive the benefits of their designated locked-in tuition and fees until they reach the end of their 12th consecutive semester. Participants will remain eligible to receive the financial incentive in their final semester if they meet requirements. Eagle Express Tuition Plan will be closed for new participants at the end of the 2018-2019 academic year.

Graduate Board Designated Tuition Increase

Graduate Board Designated Tuition Last increased in Fall 2013. UNT cost would still remain lower than all other Tier 1 public research universities in the State after increase. At least 15% of new revenue from increase will be used for need-based financial aid. Increased cost will be covered for Graduate students receiving the UNT Tuition Benefit Program award. Increased revenue will be used to address pressing instructional needs and investment in graduate education, including the hiring of faculty.

Graduate Board Designated Tuition – Proposed Increase $25.00 per semester credit hour increase beginning in Fall 2019. Total tuition increasing from $302.79 to $327.79 per hour for Texas residents and $717.79 to $742.79 for non-residents Additional $25.00 per semester credit hour increase beginning in Fall 2020 ($50.00 per semester credit hour total) Total tuition increasing from $327.79 to $352.79 per hour for Texas residents and $742.79 to $767.79 for non-residents

New Differential Tuition Rates

New Differential Tuition Differential tuition is a charge that correlates the tuition rate to the cost of instructional delivery based on the academic unit providing the course. Allows university to better align tuition with instructional costs and support faculty hiring. Proposed rates were carefully considered in light of many factors, including: Student affordability, impact on retention and benchmarking against other universities.

Graduate Differential Tuition – Counseling Program Proposed: $25.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2019. No additional increment in Fall 2020. An additional $5.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2021 ($30.00 per semester credit hour total).

Undergraduate Differential Tuition – College of Visual Arts and Design Proposed: $30.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2019. An additional $8.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2020 ($38.00 per semester credit hour total). An additional $7.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2021 ($45.00 per semester credit hour total).

Undergraduate Differential Tuition – College of Science Proposed: $8.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2019. An additional $8.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2020 ($16.00 per semester credit hour total). An additional $8.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2021 ($24.00 per semester credit hour total).

Undergraduate Differential Tuition – Mayborn School of Journalism and the Department of Media Arts in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Proposed: $15.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2019. An additional $15.00 per semester credit hour beginning in Fall 2020 ($30.00 per semester credit hour total).
