Why Read? It makes you smarter- broader knowledge Improves focus/concentration Improves Vocabulary- better writer Better memory, problem-solving Reduces stress- makes you healthy Its free entertainment (think library) Makes you more attractive Sleep better, lowers blood presure, slows dementia and alzheimers

Choose a book (fiction or nonfiction), graphic novel or magazine to read each night for 15 mins. Bring it to each English class You may read it whenever there is downtime or scheduled reading There will be 3- 4 Reading circles per term Weeks 3,5,7,9

You will be advised of your reading circle the beginning of that week; therefore you need to be well prepared in advance as you are provided with minimal notice

Reading Circles You will be asked questions about your current choice of independent reading. At the assessment you will take charge of your review Ask at least one other person in your allocated reading group a question about their chosen independent reading.

Choose 3 Discussion Points Is this book similar to one you have read before? What are the similarities and differences? Is there a book you would recommend people read or not read? Why or why not? Describe the writing style of the author. Is it similar to another book you have read? Who is an author you like to read and why?

Describe how you go about picking a book Describe how you go about picking a book. It is the same process every time? If you could give this book a score out of 5 (with 5 being the highest) what would it be and why? What character in the novel could you relate to the most and why? What particular part of the story would you possibly get rid of and why?

What stops you from reading a book? What is the best book you have read? Why? What is the worst book you have read? Why?
