What were the breadbasket colonies? The Breadbasket colony are New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. These colonies came to be known as the Middle Atlantic colonies. The Middle Atlantic Colonies produced so many crops used in making bread that they came to be called the “breadbasket” colonies.

New Netherland They settled in parts of what today is New york,New jersey,and Delaware Henry Hudson claimed it for his country Holland in 1609 New Netherland company established several trading posts in the Hudson river valley in 1621

New Netherland becomes New york The Dutch sent Peter Stuyvesant to fix the colonies problems Britain declared war on sweden and the Dutch ,then Peter Stuyvesant gave the land to his brother James the duke of york he tried to defeat the english but he failed so britain changed the name to New york and New jersey

Pennsylvania and Delaware King Charles the second gave a charter to William Penn who had become a quaker which meant he was the proprietor. Penn wanted to call the colony sylvania.
