Accreditation.org Sub-Committee Report IEEE Education Activities Board 19 November 2011 New Brunswick, USA James Irvine Chair, EAB Editorial Board for Engineering, Technology and Computing Portals 1
Introduction Usage survey late 2010 identified a lack of clarity of site aims; difficulty in information access Addressing those concerns involved more strategic issues Site purpose Primary audience ‘What is an accredited degree programme?’ Need wider input than ETCP Sub-committee formed jointly with CGAA Liz Burd, James Irvine, Moshe Kam, Karl Klimek, Saurabh Sinha, Chandrabhan Sharma 2 1/13/2019 2
Vision To be the preferred resource for all information on Engineering, Technology and Computing accreditation globally.
Audience Prospective Students and their Counselors, Professionals and Professional Societies, Licensing Bodies, Employers, Other Education Bodies and Governmental Agencies Primary: Professionals with an interest in degree program accreditation in engineering, technology and computing Secondary: Others on that list
University Listing Add ‘recognized’ programmes as well as the current accredited programmes. ‘Recognized’ programmes are programmes which have some form of quality assessment – for the program or institution – which is recognized as a metric but which does not match our current measure of accreditation. Add new (separate) listing of recognizing bodies and their criteria. Consider EUR-ACE, etc, as recognizing bodies. 5
University Listing Accredited and recognized degree program areas to be listed by country the institution is located in. Programmes to be listed by subject area (rather than individual title) If an institution has programmes in an area accredited by two different bodies, this would be indicated as such. 6
Progress Changes agreed by ETCP 31 Nov 2011 Meetings with staff and vendor occurred Plan of action drafted Some local site reorganization (vision, etc) Data schema analysis Additional country listings All countries added with placeholder page Firstly those with degrees accredited by a listed body Secondly major target countries Thirdly those with recognized programmes 7
Conclusions Clarity of vision and audience will assist site implementation Broader listing criteria will widen relevance and drive up usage Near and long term implementation plans drafted 8
