CLASSROOM RULES & PROCEDURES

What are the expectations in Ms. Hilgefort’s science class?

Classroom Expectations Come to class on time and prepared Listen and follow directions the first time they are given Respect yourself, others, and authority

Rewards! (beginning next week) Individual Rewards Pride Points What are some ways that you could earn positive pride points? Group Rewards (To start next week) Wall Gameboard: Winning group every couple of weeks will get popcorn and pride points May move forward or backwards +3 C.E.R (Warm-Up): Group with the most accurate claim and best evidence

Consequences* Stamp on Pride Card & Verbal Warning 2nd Stamp on Pride Card & Behavior Documentation Temporary Isolation Time Out & Parent Contact Isolation, Cross-Team (another classroom), Silent Lunch If behavior has to be documented three times, a Parent/Teacher Conference will be scheduled If behavior is documented 5 times, student will be referred to the office *Consequences are at teacher discretion. Severe actions will be sent to the office immediately*

Restroom Make sure to use the restroom during designated classroom breaks (homeroom & before/after lunch) No bathrooms in the first or last 10 minutes of class You will have 3 bathroom/locker breaks per week (Pride card). Use them wisely!

Interactive Notebooks You MUST have an interactive notebook by next Thursday. ALL written notes and written classwork will be completed inside your notebook All pages should be titled if worksheet is not glued in Notebook should be organized and following the table of contents Notebook may be collected to check for completion, or there may be mastery checks

Pencils/Pens Pencil or Pen Usage On classwork and homework, students may use pencils OR pens On tests, pencils are required Pencil Sharpener: Please try to use pencil sharpener at the beginning of class (during bell ringer) Pencil sharpener is located in the front of class- please try to refrain from using pencil sharpener during whole group instruction unless it is necessary

What if….??? What if I forget my pencil? Borrow one from your classmate- this should NOT be done DURING class, only BEFORE class. Sign out a golf pencil from the front and turn it in at the end of class (cross off name). If you keep the pencil, you will receive a pride stamp the following day. What if I forget my interactive notebook? Take notes on a sheet of paper and glue it into your notebook later. What if I lose my entire notebook? You will need to buy another notebook

Turning in Work: Paper Station All assignments not collected by teacher will be turned into the class’ paper station Teacher will direct students when to turn in papers Assignments should go in TOP of bin Bottom will be used for graded papers to be returned Late/Makeup Work Student should place all late or makeup work in class paper station to be graded

Absent Policy Where to find absent work: When absent, please see “Daily Learning Log” on the board and the monthly calendar to see what assignment was missed If confused, check with classmates or teacher All worksheets will be in the “While YOU were out!!!!” bin according to the date(s) that you missed Example: If you missed August 6th, the assignment will be in the “6” folder All assignments and PowerPoints with embedded videos will also be posted on Ms. Hilgefort’s website or your online class notebook

Absent Policy You will have 3 days to make up assignments for everyday absent YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKEUP WORK!

Grades 40% Major Assessments 35% Minor Assessments 20% Classwork Unit Tests & Major Projects 35% Minor Assessments Quizzes, Labs, & Mini-Projects 20% Classwork 5% Ticket out the Door & Homework Classwork or projects that are expected to be completed at home if not finished in class are not considered “homework.”

Late Work Late homework Will not be accepted. Late Classwork or Projects 5% off for every day late

Homework Homework will typically be to finish any class assignments or projects that were not finished in class If homework is assigned and not completed, no late homework will be accepted.

Tardy Policy Transition: 3 minutes to get to your classes 1 tardy=Warning 2 tardies= Warning 3 tardies=Parent Contact 4 tardies= Parent Contact 5 tardies= Office Referral

Your Turn: On each window, one part of class will be displayed. As a group, come up with “norms” or procedures that you think should be established for that part of class. For example, what “norms” or procedures should we have established during collaborative (group work) time? What should we be doing during group work? What should we NOT be doing during group work?

Hallways (Walking as a Class) DO: Single-file line Right side of the hallway Silent Keep hands and feet to yourself DON’T: Make noises (talking, hit or scrape the walls) Disrupt other classes in any way Walk outside the green line Run, jump, or horse around

Entering the Classroom Come in quietly and sit down (straight to table) Start on bellringer (read board) Copy down homework Line up by the lockers (5th period=Wall) prior to entering Come prepared with all supplies (Pencil, a glue stick, and your Interactive Notebook

Whole Group Instruction Respect others -No interrupting, no side conversations, no distracting noises, respect Raise hand to talk- don’t shout out Participate/Pay Attention!- Actively listen, take notes, be involved in discussions Remain seated unless given permission to get up

Individual/Independent Work-time Stay focused Work in a timely manner Silent- Avoid all side conversations and distractions (pencil tapping, banging on tables, etc.) No copying Raise your hand to ask the teacher any questions you may have

Collaborative (Group) Work Be an active group member- participate! Respect and listen to everyone's ideas- don’t exclude members of group. Discuss problems with all members to determine the best solution Talk in an appropriate volume with group members Give constructive criticism Stay with your group- do not wander to other groups Treat others the way you want to be treated

Technology Station Stay on task- you should only be working on the assignment given! No hidden tabs, email, music, etc. If you need to go to another website or you finished early, ask permission to go to a different online activity. Bring earbuds in your device bag.

Dismissal Wait for teacher to dismiss- not the bell Listen to instructions before exiting Clean your area- Take all supplies, push in chairs, no items should be left on or under tables Return borrowed supplies to original location Leave the room in an orderly line- go straight to your next class on right side of hallway
