Wider evaluation
What exactly is wider evaluation? Wider evaluation is anything that is relevant to both the AO1 and the question being asked that is not your initial IDA point, evidence and grounding of it or AO3. How important is wider evaluation? Really important. Your answers are unlikely to score very high marks unless they include good wider evaluation. Wider evaluation is your chance to shine and to show off how good your understanding of the AO1 really is. Aim for around 100 words
What exactly should I write about? So long as what you write is relevant to the AO1 and the question you really can write anything. Suggestions include: An application of the theory or research – try to link in detail to the theory here An alternative IDA point Any strength or limitation of the theory or research A comparison to another relevant explanation or theory; if you do this, describe the new theory only very briefly – the point is to make a comparison
Practice Once you have read the examples, write a paragraph of wider evaluation in 5 minutes where you compare to a different explanation for: Discuss explanations of institutional aggression. (24 marks)
More practice Write the first sentence of a wider evaluation paragraph for this essay, then you will pass your paper on and someone else will complete your point. Discuss the biosocial approach to gender dysphoria. (8 marks + 16 marks) Discuss evolutionary explanations of human aggression, including infidelity and/or jealousy. (8 marks + 16 marks) Discuss explanations for insomnia and/or narcolepsy. (8 marks + 16 marks)
