Aristotle’s Canons of Rhetoric

Invention the process of finding the available means of persuasion the brainstorming phase can be systematic/formal can be intuitive

Arrangement selecting, organizing, and arranging one's argument in the most effective manner possible introduction of the topic establishing credibility understanding how a piece is structured is key to analysis

Style the presentation of one's argument using artistic flair, stylistic devices, and eloquence virtues of style: correctness, clarity, evidence, propriety (appropriate word choice), ornateness (creating interest) depends on the situation

Memory relying on one's memorization skills to appear intelligent and credible making one’s speech memorable keeping a treasury of rhetorical fodder in the past--learning mnemonics today-- what we know, can access, and use

Delivery the process of effectively using gestures, vocal inflections, images, and text throughout one's oration including ethos and pathos including font size & style, use of white space, visuals, color, graphics, hypertextual links, bullets or numbered lists, use of bold or italics, punctuation
