Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment Written By: Nathanial Hawthorne

Annotations What did you like about the story? Each table group will be assigned a question. You have 5 minutes to discuss the question, come up with an answer that must cite examples, and elect a spokesperson. What did you like about the story? What did you not like about the short story? What did you not understand? What questions did you ask the text? What connections to music/movies/TV did you make? What types of annotations did you make? Would you recommend this story to a friend? Why/Why not?

Symbolism What is symbolism? You have 5-7 minutes to discuss in your table groups and come up with an answer. Your elected spokesperson cannot have spoken last time. If you want to duplicate an another group’s answer, you have you cite at least two “new” reasons. What is symbolism? Name one symbol in “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment”. What is it a symbol of? Where does it occur in the story?/How many times? Give at least three reasons why your table thinks it’s a symbol.

Imagery What is imagery? You have 5-7 minutes to discuss in your table groups and come up with an answer. Your elected spokesperson cannot have spoken yet. Your group cannot duplicate another group’s answer. What is imagery? What is the best example of imagery in the whole story ? Where does it occur in the story? Why is it the best? Cite at least three reasons.

GIST Summary You have 5 minutes to discuss your GIST summaries from your worksheet. Your elected spokesperson cannot have spoken yet. Your group cannot duplicate another group’s answer. Choose the best, most accurate GIST summary and answer the following questions: What is the GIST? Why did you choose this summary?

Vocabulary You have 5 minutes to discuss your vocab words from your worksheet. If everyone at your table group has spoken, you may repeat any spokesperson. Your group cannot duplicate another group’s answer. Of the three words I gave you, which one did you think was the “hardest”? Pick two vocab words your table group looked up. Share the word, definition, and part of speech.

Worksheet Go over the answers together, then I’m going to collect it. Part of your grade is self-correcting your worksheet. Don’t forget! Portfolio’s due Monday! Grammar Quiz Monday!! http://msdavisedu.weebly.com
