Applying Integer Operations How do we apply the multiplication and division of integers to word problems?

Learning Goals LG 702: Students will be able to apply and extend previous understandings of operations to add and subtract rational numbers. LG 703: Apply and extend previous understandings of operations to multiply and divide rational numbers.

What are we doing today? Today I am working with integers and word problems. So that I can determine which sign to use for integers and which operations to use in solving word problems. I’ll know I’ve got it if I can solve a problem like this:

Before we begin… New textbook pages to tear out: Pages 57 – 110 Keep the pages you have already used at home, but do NOT throw them away. The material covered on those pages will all be used on our Unit 1 Test.

Using Order of Operations with Integers – Page 49 What is Order of Operations?

Let’s look at another example – Page 51 Analyze the information you’ve been given.

Your Turn – Page 51

Quiz Page 56, #1-7 Put your name on the top of your paper, then tear it out of your book/folder. You will have the remainder of class to complete this quiz. When you are done: - Turn your quiz into your class bin. - Take any extra time to make-up any missing assignments.
