Psalm 150:1-6 - “Praise ye the Lord Psalm 150:1-6 - “Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
I. Where Should God Be Praised? – v.1 ₋ Is there a place inappropriate to praise God? ₋ Every place is appropriate
II. Why Should We Praise God? –v.2 Basis of His praise • “Mighty acts” / Reference to His power • “Excellent greatness” / Reference to His person Isaiah 40:17 – “All nations before Him are as nothing and they are counted to Him less than nothing.” Revelation 4:11 – “Thou art worthy, O Lord to receive glory and honor and power.” Psalm 34:8 – “O taste and see that the Lord is good.”
II. Why Should We Praise God? –v.2 Psalm 107:8 – “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men.” Praise Him reverently – Greatness of His being Praise Him gratefully – Greatness of His love Praise Him retrospectively – Greatness of His gifts Praise Him prospectively – Greatness of His promises
III. How Should God Be Praised? – vs.3-5 Our praise should be according to truth. God should always be the object of our praise. Our praise should be emotional and devotional. Our praise should come from a sincere heart of love. Praising God should be your lifestyle.
IV. Who Should Praise God? – v.6 If you are breathing, You qualify to praise the Lord Philippians 2:9-11 – “Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
I Chronicles 29:11-13 – “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.”
Benefits to Praising God: Praising God keeps us in focus. (Hebrews 12:2 – “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”) Praising God brings joy to the heart. (Psalm 16:11 – “In thy presence is fullness of joy.”) Praising God gives us peace. (Isaiah 26:3 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.”) Praising God imparts wisdom. Praising God adds power and confidence to life.
