BODY OF WORK PRESENTATION Year 12 2014 - 2015 BODY OF WORK PRESENTATION By Rochelle Brewty Teacher: Ms Fernandes

Concept Behind the B.O.W ~ A driving desire to learn and/or know something ~ ~ DISCOVERY through the artwork ~ ~ Allow the audience to use their imagination and extend themselves beyond the norm ~

Interior – Extravagant and detailed as much as possible “Curiosities” (Sculptural Piece) They will possess strangeness and humane qualities, such as movement and/or personality trait (example - reading). 2 Main ideas: 1) Sculptural Pieces 2) Cabinets of Curiosities Cabinets of Curiosities – Create miniature world or scene in each Cabinet. Exterior – Plain. Interior – Extravagant and detailed as much as possible WHAT I want to create and HOW I Plan to do so… Through my concept, I want to take people out of their ordinary and allow them to travel into the extraordinary.

Subjective (Personal) Appropriation of found objects. Devices in artwork: Hybrids, humour, wonder, imagination and intertextuality. Challenging the idea of discarded objects as useless junk. Challenging traditional art Using found objects and old (antique) items. Such items already have a history behind them. Using such objects in my sculptures – by transforming/‘reinventing’ these objects, they are given a NEW purpose and meaning. The artworks should invoke a desire to discover – e.g. what’s inside the box? Audience is required to physically interact with the artworks. Audience will develop their own personal perception of the artwork. The artworks focus on the curiosities in life and how central curiosity is in ones life Using various materials to create an object - the more materials you have to work with the MORE possibilities are available to you. To use materials including; Metal objects, Clay, Paper materials, Wire, String, FOUND OBJECTS Antique/Older objects intriguing to use as they possess story, a history already Structural Subjective (Personal) Post-modern Cultural (Social) FRAMES

ARTISTIC INTENTIONS: Audience will physically Interact with parts of the BOW. The “curiosities” created (artworks) will encourage the audience to ‘fulfil’ their curiousness Example: Opening the Cabinets of Curiosities to find out what’s inside. The audience will be forced to place themselves within the scene and may formulate a connections with the sculptural pieces due to the humane aspects

CHOSEN MEDIA: Combination of: Chosen because: Allows me to explore all possible aspects of design of my concept and idea/s Able to use found / discarded / old (antique) objects  Able to incorporate almost any material within HSC limitations I like the freedom and ability to use various materials Create interesting effect, layers of potential meaning and
