Grade 6 Orientation Richland Elementary School Welcome! Grade 6 Orientation Richland Elementary School

*Elementary school students learning to become middle school students… A Year of Transition *Elementary school students learning to become middle school students…

Responsibility *Planners – Teachers do not sign planners. It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the student to review the planner with a family member daily. *Homework – Homework will be written on the board in each classroom. It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the student to copy assignments into his/her planner.

Responsibility *Supplies – It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the student to bring required supplies to class daily (text, folder, pencil, assignments, etc.). *A supply list for each class will be given. *Bring class schedule to school on the first day. This can be printed from PowerSchool.

Responsibility *Electronics – Kindles and Ipads are to be used for reading purposes only. If a student chooses to bring an electronic reading device to school, it is his/her RESPONSIBILITY to care for it. School staff cannot be responsible for electronic devices. Cell phones are not permitted in classes. If brought to school, they must remain in bookbags. *Behavior - Students are RESPONSIBLE for their own behavior. In sixth grade, we are kind and respectful toward one another. We follow all classroom and school-wide rules.

Schedule *Prior to coming to school on Wednesday, Aug. 23, please log onto Power School where you access your grades and print your schedule. *Mr. Beach, from the High School, will be coming to teach a STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) lesson to homeroom students during Band/Chorus/Orchestra/Tutor time on a Monday-Thursday rotation. *If a student chooses not to participate in Band or Orchestra, he/she will have tutoring or study hall. *We never have mingle during this time after lunch. Our mingle time is at the end of the day 3:15-3:30.

Schedule *Students are permitted to exchange books/supplies between classes. Therefore, totes and backpacks are not to be used during the school day. *Students will be permitted to return to their homeroom classroom once class has begun during the first quarter only. It is the student’s RESPONSIBILITY to gather all supplies between classes in quarters 2, 3, and 4.

Schedule *Teachers are available to help students between 8:25 and 8:55 a.m. and study hall. It is the student’s RESPONSIBILITY to pick up missed assignments, turn in late assignments/make-up work, request help in a subject. *Band and Orchestra students are encouraged to see teachers in the morning if help is needed.

First Day of Class *Each teacher will send home the following: *Course syllabus *Required Supplies *Classroom rules and behavior expectations *Student Data Census: Please review the data on it, complete the form, and return it ASAP *It is the RESPONSIBILITY of each student to share these with an adult at home and return them the following day with a signature.

Absenteeism *If your child will be absent for one day, please do not request that work be sent home. Students should see teachers between 8:25 and 8:55 A.M. the following day to request make-up work. *If your child will be absent for more than one day, please call the school before 9:00 a.m. to request work. Missed work can be picked up in the office at the end of the day. *A written excuse for each absence is required by law.

Dress Code/Handbook *The school handbook outlines our dress code. *Students will be sent to the office if the dress code is not followed. *Students are not allowed to chew gum in school unless the teacher allows it during a party situation.

Parent-Teacher Conferences *Your child will have 5 different teachers this year. Please indicate on your conference form which teachers you would like to meet with. You do not need to meet with all your child’s teachers! *Conferences are scheduled on a first come – first served basis.
