Project 2 ‘Promoting local music scene ’ Week 4: 29th of January 2018 Skills workshops: Problems and solutions Filming and Editing: ‘filming and editing short factual report’ Topic: ‘Further education in England’ Evidence for: Unit 5 LO1.1 and LO 2.2 Evidence for: Unit 6 LO1.1 and LO2.2

Factual program making Key features of factual programs: Non – fiction About the real (historical, political, cultural etc events) world Un staged Based on observation rather than intervention Informative and educational

Film language of factual film making Location shooting Uneven, hand – held camerawork Natural lighting Following the action Synchronous sound recording Interviews with witnesses Voiceover narration Use of archive material (stills, news footage) and research Expert testimony Material shaped into the narrative Material structured into an argument

Task: Filming and editing factual report In this week you will plan, storyboard and film a short factual report on further education system in England. You are addressing foreign students as education programs vary greatly from country to country. Task:

Your video report needs to cover: An introduction – on camera ( who are you, where are you and what the report is about) Footage of the college – voice over giving information on what kind of institution Canterbury College is and what does if offer? I am expecting to see range of well planned and filmed shots. Use of tripod is ‘must’. At least two short interviews with students ( find out what students of Canterbury College think of college and courses they study) Conclusion to the repost – ( this part needs to contain information of where to find further information about the college and how to apply) Once you have completed your video recording make sure to check all your footage before editing. Produce individual edits.

Example of how to storyboard your ideas for the report.

Evaluation questions: What was the task you were working on? What are the skills you have learned this week? What is the purpose of this skill set? Give at least 3 examples of the skills being used in industry? How effectively have you carried this skills set, think about the strengths and areas for improvement? How can you use those skills in your future projects?
