Highlight of Current Activities Energy Efficiency WI05028 was constituted as an open analysis of requirements and potential solutions for using NGN to positively influence energy efficiency in the customer premises During 2011 the importance of EC Mandates M/441 Smart Metering, and M/490 Smart Grid, and M/462 ICT Networks Energy Efficiency massively increased
Highlight of Current Activities QoS QoS guarantees from the core to within the customer premises are becoming more crucial for end-to-end delivery of multimedia, including also cellular traffic backhaul
Highlight of Current Activities DECT New Generation Offers a combination of telephony and data services, supports wide-band voice-over-ip and provides internet connectivity. DECT Ultra Low Energy Allows a battery life time of 5 to 10 years. The first application is home control, which is planned to be available in 2012.
Strategic Direction Customer Premises Networks (CPN) are becoming increasingly important for delivery of services, as the foundation for FMC-backhaul, IPTV QoE, LBS for EmCall, M2M local area networks, Building Energy Management, etc. General engineering, optical networks mainly, and global KPIs for energy efficiency monitoring are becoming keys for improvement of physical CPN area
Challenges As reported in GSC-15, the challenge is to co-ordinate so many groups for the benefit of all industry segments and indeed of all ITC-using communities. Ubiquitous access using smart-phones, tablets, etc, is coming ever closer.
Next Steps / Actions It is crucial to improve the co-ordination of CPN technical discussions amongst the various groups.
