5 Ways to Paraphrase Use synonyms Change the order of ideas in a sentence Break long sentences into short ones, or combine short sentences into a longer one. Change the word form of key words. Switch between active and passive. COMBINE ALL THESE TECHNIQUES!

Always Also Remember… Include a citation, even if your paraphrase is no longer a direct quote. “Climate change is a reality,” states Smith (2014). According to Smith (2014), climate change has become a fact that needs to be addressed. Don’t change the original meaning of the quote. Smith (2014) claims that high use of fossil fuels has caused climate change.
