Section 1: Using a PC Use a PC to produce and edit text In this section, you will: Practise keyboarding exercises Copy-type and save a covering letter for a job application Open the workbook below and follow the instructions to practise copy typing Introduction to Word Processing Student Workbook Return to this course when you have completed the above Workbook
Section 1: Using a PC Outcome 1: Assessment As requested in the Introduction to Word Processing workbook, keep a print out of the Cover Letter you saved in your assessment folder

Section 2: Using Email Student Exercise Ask your tutor for their college email address and send an email asking when the next college holidays are Ask another course member for their college email address and send them an email asking if they’re enjoying the course When you have received an email from your tutor, reply and thank them for the information Reply to the course member, thanking them for the information and tell them that: You find the course informative and hope it helps you to get a job
Section 2: Using Email Outcome 2: Assessment Print out the email you sent to your tutor asking about college holidays Print out the reply you received either from your tutor or other course member Keep both printouts in your assessment folder
Section 3: Create a CV Open and print this list of CV Personal Profiles Open and Save this CV template as YourName CV (for example JohnWilsonCV.docx) in your network drive or memory stick for the next section
Section 3: Create a CV The Profile is an important part of any CV. Being at the very top, it is the first thing an employer or any recruiter will look at To help you create your own Profile, read the List of Profiles you printed earlier and find one that resembles your background and job plans Open the CV template you recently saved as YourNameCV.docx (this is on your memory stick or your network drive - ask your tutor for help if you are having difficulty finding it Click in the Personal Profile section of your CV Copy type the paragraph you chose from the List of Profiles Fix from here Insert your own details in the spaces for Name, Address, Town etc
