Warm-up What were the motivations of English settlers moving to the New World? List and explain at least three.

The Early Years of jamestown Established in 1607 with roughly 100 settlers The colony is mostly unprepared and experiences hardship in its early years Settlers suffer from disease and starvation because they lack knowledge of growing food. The Starving Time: the period of time in 1609 in which many Jamestown settlers die of starvation

Jamestown thrives and expands Period of peace after the marriage of John Rolfe and Pocahontas. John Rolfe brings tobacco seeds to Jamestown  Thriving economy 1619: Jamestown colony establishes the Virginia Assembly, a model for representative government in the colonies 1619: The first Africans arrive in Jamestown and work picking tobacco as indentured servants
