Skirt: Tube of fabric which covers the body from the waist to hem. Dress: A skirt with a bodice attached. A single garment that covers the torso and legs.

Types of Skirts Straight Skirts Flared Skirts Pegged Skirts Circular Skirts

Straight Skirts Darts in front and back or something to shape fabric at the waist Curved side seams Same width at hip and hem Slit at center back seam

Flared Skirts Wider at the hem than at the waist. Side seams slant outward from fullest part of the hip Flattering because it makes the waist and legs look slim

Pegged Skirts Hip line is wider than the hemline Exaggerates the size of the hips Slits at the hemline to facilitate movement

Circular Skirts Fabric is cut in one piece An example is a poodle skirt from the 50s
