Common Student Questions Question: What happens to my project/multi-day assignment due dates when I’m absent? You get extra days if: You weren’t at school when a project was assigned. (You get time equal to days missed.) You were absent on the due date. (Then it’s due on the date you return.) You don’t get extra days if: It’s a multi-day assignment and you were here when it was assigned, but absent on a day when we worked on it in class. It’s still due on the original assigned due date.
Common Student Questions Question: When I check my grades in PowerSchool, I see a zero, but I’m not sure why. Answer: Check the teacher comments on that assignment. If there is not a comment or you need further explanation, email your teacher. Communication is key to your success.
Common Student Questions Question: I didn’t turn in an assignment or I did poorly on an assignment. What can I do now? Answer: If you didn’t turn in the assignment, you can turn it in within two days (for a late grade) or it becomes a zero. If you did poorly on an assignment, ask your teacher for a redemption opportunity to bring the grade up to a 70. If you don’t take advantage of the redemption opportunity within two days the original grade will remain.
Common Student Questions Question: When I go to tutorials, I don’t know what to do, or questions to ask. Answer: It’s okay to not know! Here are some ideas: Can you show me how to work this type of problem? I need help understanding the directions for this project/paper. Can we go over the questions I missed on this homework/quiz? Where can I find extra practice for this skill? How should I study for the upcoming exam? I was absent yesterday. What assignments do I need to make up?
Common Student Questions Question: How can I contact my teacher? Answer: Email them using your school email. From your PowerSchool account, you can click on your teacher’s name to send them an email. Remember- it’s your responsibility to communicate with your teachers as soon as possible if you miss an assignment or test.
Students- It’s never too soon to start thinking about your post-high school plans! Midlothian ISD provides each high school student with a subscription to Naviance, a web- based service that allows students to research careers, compare colleges and search for scholarship opportunities! Access Naviance through the Department of Learning page on the Midlothian ISD website: www.misd.gs
