Welcome Parent Orientation 2018-2019 Ice breaker, Language and Literacy, Itsy Bitsy Spider

Mission The mission of the Druid Hills Child Development Center is to develop children socially, emotionally and cognitively, to encourage their curiosity, and to help them realize their full potential. We define quality as an environment that inspires children’s natural curiosity and believe children learn best through doing. We partner with families to support them in their role as their child’s first and most important teachers and believe that through this partnership we create a foundation for a child’s future success.

DHCDC is a non profit organization that is lead by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our board is comprised of both current and past parents and community members.

Turnover in Early Education What causes turnover? Stressful emotionally and physically Pass through to professionalization Year Round commitment Lack of exposure to quality in prior work experience Work life Balance What can we do to prevent it? Rigorous screening and interview process Competitive Pay, Health Benefits Tuition Reimbursement Child Care Discounts Extensive Professional Development * New Leadership Structure * Community Agreements National turnover rate approximately 40% , DHCDC 25% two years prior however last year much higher primarily in our co-teacher positions. Why….

New Leadership Structure@ DHCDC To create a more supportive environment for both parents and staff we are currently working changing our Leadership Structure. We will have a Program Coordinator for Preschool/Prek and a Program Coordinator for Infant Toddlers and have created three new positions: Program Director Mentor Teacher-Ms. Keisha, Ms. Jasmine, and Ms. Luchon Early Language and Literacy Teacher Leader, Amanda Lewis

Who can help? With this new structure we hope that parents will have access to support when you need it. Teachers in your assigned classroom are your first point of contact related to your child’s care If you need further assistance please escalate your concerns: Program Coordinator Program Director Executive Director Board of Directors
