Purpose To inform TSMs of other education options available to them during their transition.

Objectives To learn what Student Veterans of America(SVA) is and how it can be beneficial. To learn what changes have been made to the GI Bill, including eligibility. Where to go for assistance.

Student Veterans of America(SVA) Is a coalition of student Veterans groups on college campuses across the U.S. Executive Staff and Student Veterans Provide peer-to-peer networks, coordinate campus activities, etc.

Changes to the gi bill Eliminated the 15-year Expiration Date Veterans whose last discharge or release from active duty is on or after January 1, 2013, will not expire. Restore Benefits if a College Shuts Down or Loses Accreditation After Jan. 1, 2015, GI Bill benefits will be restored

Expanded GI Bill Benefits for Purple Heart Recipients Yellow Ribbon for Fry Scholarship & Purple Heart Recipients Yellow Ribbon for Armed Forces Serving on Active Duty Certain members will be eligible effective August 1, 2022 Expanded GI Bill Benefits for Purple Heart Recipients Yellow Ribbon for Fry Scholarship & Purple Heart Recipients

Basic Allowance for Housing(BAH) Reduced Basic Allowance for Housing(BAH) Reflects Actual Housing Location Increased Eligibility for National Guard and Reserve Members BAH Reduced- offset cost of Forever GI Bill, a 1% decrease each year for 5 years. Receive actual housing cost of member rather school location Members placed on Medhold will see that time count towards their eligibility

Transfer of Unused Post-9/11 Education Assistance Benefits Consolidation of Certain Eligibility Tiers for National Guard and Reserve Members Transfer of Unused Post-9/11 Education Assistance Benefits Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program(DEA) Increased DEA Payments Consolidation- resulting in up to $2,300 more a year in tuition Survivors’- changes from 45 months to 36 to be consistent with all other programs DEA- will increase by $200 a month

Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship VA High Technology Pilot Program Priority Enrollment for Veterans Work-Study Program Independent Study Programs STEM- extended by 9 months or lump sum of $30,000 VA- enroll in high tech programs that do not lead to a degree Priority- Early enrollment Work-Study- earn while you learn
