How Parents can Support Students to be Successful in Year 11 Check your child is working daily and revising weekly – even if they say they have no homework – they have! Sign planners weekly, check your child is writing their homework up Look at your child’s subject exercise books Ensure your child attends lunch and after school sessions Send them into school daily Liaise with your child’s teachers via phone and e mail
What can I do to help my child with revision? See our revision resources and tips on our school website. Help your child to: Draw up a revision timetable. Get Motivated - praise and rewards go a long way. Eat Healthily – provide brain food such as carbohydrates and plenty of fruit and veg. Get Enough Exercise – take breaks within studying and revising. Get Enough Sleep – a healthy mind = a healthy body. Revise – test them, buy them highlighters, cards, coloured pens, paper, folders, post it notes, revision guides, York notes, direct them to revision websites. Stay Calm – Talk to them about their subjects and exams, encourage them to ask their teachers for help, on exam days ensure they leave home on time to get into school on time. Get organised – stick copies of your child’s exam time table on the fridge/pinboard/your child’s bedroom wall, ensure your child has black pens, sharp pencils, rubber, ruler, compass, protractor, calculator, see through clear pencil case.
