Issues

Para Educators The class size side letter in the agreement addresses this issue. Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be offered para educator assistance in the following situations: 32 or more students in a general education classroom – full time para educator will be offered 29 or more ELL or combination students – full time para educator will be offered 30 or more studnets for general education – 3 hours per day of para educator assistance will be offered 27 or more ELL students or combination – 3 hours per day of para educator assistance will be offered PPD – principals at sites requiring meetings (staff, trainings, district offered PD, curriculum writing)

Para Educators cont. Third through sixth grade classrooms will be offered a full time para educator in the following situations: 35 or more students for general education 32 or more students for ELL or combination

Overload or 6th class process Class loads are determined by section 8.2 of the Elgin Agreement A tenure teacher may consent to teach more than the assigned 5 class periods. When determining which teacher will be offered the 6th class, there are 2 determining factors. 1. Availability – which teacher(s) are available when the class is being offered. The teacher must have an open period where the class is selected. 2. Seniority – of the teachers that are available that period which the class is running, the class must be offered in order of seniority.

Special Education ratios in Gen ed classrooms According to IL School Code the ratio of students with an IEP to students without should be 70/30 (70% gen ed students to 30% IEP students) Any modification to the school code requires a waiver.
