So what does a Generation X Social Worker make of all of this?

What is self directed support? Individuals choose how their support is provided and have as much control as they want over their personal budget to achieve individual outcomes.

Regionally Building momentum Building a coalition of support Project Sponsored by HSCB Departmental approval PfG Reform Programme 5 Trusts implementing

Vision A phased move over the next three years towards everyone having an individual support plan. 33% uptake in Direct payments and managed budgets

Current position Regional Project established A regional minimum (floor) rate for SDS A regional outcome framework A regional Communication plan Trust implementation plans in place

The numbers? 7000 staff trained Uptake 9000 individuals with SDS support plans

The issues Scaling at pace Bringing People along An underdeveloped market Fear of change The need for leadership

What will the future look like? Just as Bevin was born between the wars he saw and made a future that had not existed What future will the Babyboomers, Gen X and Celtic Tigers leave?

The real legacy will be if we cede that choice to those service users who want to shape their own support
