QUESTIONS: What should an 8th grade student consider when choosing classes? What is Advanced Placement, and how does it benefit students?

Advanced Placement Class / Exam The Class: TIMELINE: September – June College course taught in a high school classroom, with the support and pacing appropriate for high school students Course title and grade will appear on the transcript Course grade is not connected to the A.P. exam

Advanced Placement Class / Exam The Exam: TIMELINE: May SCORING: 1-5 (3-5 earn college credit. Colleges only know your scores when you submit them.) FOCUS: Depth/breadth of knowledge Quality of thinking Creativity/application

Benefit #1: College Credit Class of 2018 Planning to attend the University of North Dakota (Department of Aviation) On track to register as a sophomore at UND with 24 college credits earned in A.P. at Auburn Riverside

Where do freshmen start? The decision to take A.P. or honors is yours! Incoming 8th grade students should also have the approval of their teacher. Honors Language Arts 9 (1 year) A.P. Human Geography Geometry or Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry Biology or Chemistry (if math pre-reqs met) Spanish, German, French, or Japanese (If you want to enroll in a 4th year/A.P. course as a senior)

Options for the sophomore year? The decision to take A.P. or honors is yours! A.P. European History Honors Language Arts 10 or A.P. Language for the AP Capstone program A.P. Chemistry, A.P. Biology, A.P. Physics Advanced Algebra or Pre-Calculus Continue with a world language course
