“Trashy” Town Project The second homework project for Room 5 is another garbage art project. We will be creating an imaginary town from discarded boxes. Your child has chosen a building to create and has wrapped a box as a base. Homework will be to design and create the building. Your child will create doors, windows, and embellishments to depict his/her establishment. If your student is creating a business or service entity, signage, with a name (proper noun), is expected. Some children are creating house/apartment buildings for the town. Later, we will be creating streets and other necessities for our town. I do have a sample on my website to give you and idea of what is expected. I’ve also included a photo of a picture of a map from a story that we have read. The project covers various standards in social studies and grammar, and the town will be on glorious display at Open House in the spring. This is a graded project. I have explained to the children that effort, neatness and creativity are expected. This is not a coloring project. I want cutting and gluing. I have allowed the children to take paper home from school, but the choice to use it is theirs. This is an opportunity for parent guidance, and support. Please make the time to work with your child. The children have named our town “Polar Town”. Above all, have a grand time with imagining the possibilities. Your child is making:________________________ If you require any assistance with the project, please send me an email. This is a 2-week project. It is due 12/22.
