Mrs Tatham & Mrs Orton will be the other adults Meet the Teacher! Mrs Brooks & Mrs Jaques Mrs Tatham & Mrs Orton will be the other adults working in year 2

Year 2 is all about being independent! Children will enter via the same gate as the Reception children at 8.50am. Slightly later than the Reception children. Please encourage your child to organise themselves and enter school independently. They will be expected to hang their belongings up and enter the classroom with the equipment needed for the day.

Lunches, Snacks and Water Children will continue to receive a free school dinner which needs to be booked online. Healthy lunch boxes are also an option Free fruit is provided at break time. You may provide your own healthy snack if preferred. We are a nut free school. Bring in fresh water or a drink daily

Our PE days next year will be Thursday and Friday. Please make sure that their kit remains in school until the end of the half term when we will be sending it home for washing. They will need outdoor and indoor kit – details are on the school website.

Forest Schools The Year 2 children are incredibly luckily as throughout the year they will all have the opportunity to participate in Forest Schools (Outdoor Learning). This happens for one afternoon per week and children will require certain items of clothing to participate. Children in the first groups have a letter which will be handed out at the end of the meeting.

Homework Children are expected to read 4 times per week and are rewarded for this. Reading records are collected in on a Friday. Your child will have weekly spellings to learn. Given out and tested on a Friday. Your child will have a weekly additional task to complete. Given out and handed in on a Friday.

Year 2 children will also bring home a library book to share at home. Reading Your child will learn HOW to read and key reading skills during Guided Reading sessions in class. These are skills which will then be practiced at home. We want children to enjoy reading and sharing lots of different kinds of books with you! Ensure that you read to them as well as them reading to you. It demonstrates a good reader. Year 2 children will also bring home a library book to share at home.

Summer Challenge We need your help to ensure that your child does not drop back during the long summer break therefore we have set a summer challenge. Children will receive a reward for completing the challenge. The challenge consists of a reading, writing and a maths task which will all enable your child to access the year 2 curriculum more easily. We will hand this out at the end of the meeting.
