DO NOT TELL ANYONE WHAT YOU HAVE!!!!! IT’S A SECRET!!!!!! (play along) INSTRUCTIONS All students will draw 1 piece of paper Most students will have blank pieces of paper, we will call them “NOTS” Some students will have red dots on their paper, we will call them “DOTS” DO NOT TELL ANYONE WHAT YOU HAVE!!!!! IT’S A SECRET!!!!!! (play along)

The object of the game is to WIN. WINNING The object of the game is to WIN. To WIN you must do one of the following: If you are a “NOT” the only way you can win is by being in the largest group of people that does not have a “DOT” in it. Therefore you will want to throw anyone out of your group that seems weird or fishy. They may be lying to you and trying to infiltrate your “NOT” group. If you are a “DOT” the only way you can WIN is by being the only “DOT” in a group of “NOTS” Therefore you will want to make groups believe you are a “NOT” even though you are really a “DOT”. Basically you have snuck into their group by deceiving them. NOTE: Make sure you’re the only “DOT” in the group because two “DOTS” in a group DOESN’T WIN

DOT/NOT Chart Comparison p 26 DOT GAME HISTORICAL COMPARISON Some students were DOTS Some Americans during the Cold War were Communist Party members or Soviet spies. Most students were NOTS Most Americans were not Communist members or Soviet spies. Students accused others of being dots even though they never saw other students’ slips of paper. HUAC, McCarthy, and others made accusations-often based only on suspicion-against Americans thought to be communists or communist sympathizers. Accusing individuals without evidence became known as McCarthyism. Anxiety increased as students lost trust in one another. Anxieties were raised during the Cold War as Americans were concerned about the spread of communism and the possibility of a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union.
