Personification “Boy at the Window”

Personification Personification Type of figurative language in which the writer attaches human-like qualities to something non-human Examples: “The sun smiled down on us.” “Time is a thief.” “Great waves looked over others coming in,”

“Boy at the Window” Read the poem on pg. 451 and answer the following: What does the first stanza focus on? What emotion is revealed by the boy? Why? Cite details from the poem to support. What does the second stanza focus on? What emotion is revealed on in the first part of the second stanza? Why? Cite details to support. What emotion is revealed in the second part of the second stanza? Why? Cite details to support. Discuss the diction of the word melt (both denotation and connotation). In what TWO ways does the poet use personification? What other figure of speech is used in this poem? How so? Cite details to support. What is the purpose and effect of the repetition in the final line of the poem? What is the poem saying about fear, pity, and sympathy?
