Shape Your Future Healthy Resources for Teachers Ann E. Freeman: afreeman@thevibrand.com Marketing Coordinator VI Marketing and Branding -Ann E. Introduction: Hi everyone, my name is Ann E. Freeman and I’m a Marketing Coordinator that works at VI Marketing and Branding on the TSET – SYF account. What is SYF? – SYF
Learning Objectives Review why email works Review strategy and tactics used in email campaign Identify components of campaign that may be scaled to fit other programs
Who we are? TSET logo Shape Your Future logo
State of Health in Oklahoma Childhood obesity: 17.3% (CDC) Adult obesity: 36.5% (BRFSS) Schools in Oklahoma lack physical activity and nutrition polices SYF wants to be a resource for teachers and provide free content that could help improve overall health
Why Email? Email works for SYF because we have content and free resources readily available for teachers. If you host events and/or provide resources for your target audience, emails are a great way to get information out. If your target audience is busy and always on-the-go, email is convenient and personal.
Grow Your List of Subscribers Encourage subscribers to share and forward your emails If you hand out surveys, make sure to ask for an email address Promote email sign-ups on social media Make sure you provide an email signup sheet at events If you work with partners – ask if you can have an email signup link or web banner on their website or included in their newsletter
Create a Content Calendar A content calendar is a shareable resource teams can use to plan content throughout the year. It’s great if you have seasonal content that is timely for your audience Helps you stay organized and follow a plan Duplicating content can be bad for emails because users want to see mixed messages. A content calendar can help you see what you’ve done in the past and what you’re planning for the future
Know Your Audience Discover what content is valuable to your audience. For SYF, that’s easily digestible healthy messages. It’s a good idea to occasionally survey your audience and simply ask what kind of content they want. That way, it’s not just another email in their inbox — instead, it’s providing value to them. Classroom Snacks Easy Lunch Ideas Classroom Physical Activities Downloadable Materials Tobacco-Free Message
Why Is This Important? By providing teachers with healthy resources for the classroom, we bring easy ideas directly to them that can be implemented into their day. Educational resources can be used in the classroom and taken home to share with their families. Healthy classroom activities complement existing programs and policies within the school. They help to provide an incentive for teachers to use them in the classroom.
What Resource Can You Provide? Shape Your Future focuses on localized free resources We found that teachers are a huge influence in students’ lives, especially in rural areas. We aim to supplement existing school programs and policies by reinforcing healthy messages with our free content. Figure out what your audience needs and what resources you can offer. Don’t start a long-term email…
Track Your Success Results from the SYF Teacher Email were overwhelmingly positive. The emails exceeded all objectives and achieved metrics well above email marketing industry standards. Track success Engagements New subscribers Time on website Attendance jump at events you’re hosting Increase in people interacting or using services Track downloads
