carbon emission results (2008-2010) British Embassy carbon emission results (2008-2010) Good afternoon, My name is Jihye JUNG From now on I would like to introduce about British embassy’s carbon emission results. March 2011

Contents Overview Reduction by years Reduction by type of fuel ( Electricity ,Gas, Vehicles) The Flights Conclusion I’m going to follow this orther.

Overview From 2008 to 2010 Our embassy has reduced carbon emission in total by 8.6% ( Including electricity, gas and vehicles only) Flights are excluded from this figure because started to record flight data only this year. So there is no comparable data yet. Flight is excluded in reduction rate because we just started record of flight’s carbon emission from this year. So there is no comparable data. Flight will be included from 2011 reduction rate of carbon emission.

Reduction by years( without Flight) Amount(tCO2) 2008 2009 2010 Total by years 406 376 371 As you could see, the total amount has decreased annually. So except Flight, emission rates of sectors have deceased in total 8.6% and 35(tco2). Years Decrease % Amount Reduction 2008 to 2009 -7.4 30 (tCO2) 2009 to 2010 -1.3 5 (tCO2) 2008 to 2010 -8.6 35 (tCO2)

Reduction by type of fuel Total amount(tCO2) 2008 2009 2010 Gas 88 75 81 Electricity 291 278 266 Vehicles 27 23 24 The graph shows that Electricity has the largest portion in total emission amount. Approximately twice higher than sum of Gas and vehicles’. And the emission of electricity has continuously decreased. Compare to 2008, in 2010 It was reduced to - 8.6 %. Reduction rate % 2008 to 2009 2009 to 2010 2008 to 2010 Gas -14.8 +8.0 -8.0 Electricity -4.5 -4.3 -8.6 Vehicles +4.3 -11.1

Vehicles

This tables illustrate the significance of Flight ‘s carbon emission amount. The flight’s emission amount is higher than electricity's (287 versus 266 ). As a conclusion, to achieve our carbon reduction target 12% from2008 to 2012, We have to try more to reduce carbon emission in electricity and flight sectors.

Conclusion On track But rate of reduction is slowing Need new actions this year
