Writing a descriptive paragraph The topic sentence consists of a person, place or thing that the writer intends to describe. The topic sentence may be implied rather than stated. Supporting points and details include various kinds of imagery can be: subjective – expressing the author’s mood or feeling about the topic (ex: novels and poems). can be: objective – expressing plain, unemotional facts; scientific (ex: graphs, facts, news stories). Descriptive writing tends to be more “poetic” .
