Assessment for Year 3 Professional Practice Information for Students, Line Managers and Professional Practice Tutors Deadline Friday 25th May 2018

Social Policy and Professional Practice Module Semester 2 module Provides the assessment for Advanced Professional Practice Submission is at the End of Term Three Taught sessions Three Professional Practice Tutorials Optional 3-way meeting (particularly if placement has changed)

Assessment Portfolio Students Presentation and Viva Portfolio Non-Portfolio Students Presentation and Viva (40%) 2,000 word commentary (60%)

The portfolio Student’s presentation in written, journal, scrapbook and/or PowerPoint form (equivalent to 3000 words). For the submission this should include material setting practice in the social policy context (I recommend a 1000 word essay for this section). Completed mark sheets for presentation and viva from Line Manager and Professional Practice Tutor. These give space for student’s own reflection on the presentation and viva and response to comments made. Student’s self-assessment Line Manager’s assessment Professional Practice Tutor’s assessment Main Agency timesheets to date 2nd Alternative Agency timesheet and LM Assessment

Presentation Create a 20 minute presentation demonstrating your personal and professional development through the course and identifying future learning and development needs. This can be in the form of a written piece, scrapbook and/or PowerPoint presentation and should be 3000 words or equivalent. This will be presented to the PPT and LM in a three-way meeting, followed by a viva, in which the LM and PPT can ask questions relating to the presentation or broader questions relating to your professional development.

The Presentation Takes place in a 3-way meeting Student is responsible for arranging this and any equipment needed Should last around 20 minutes 20 minutes for questions from PPT and LM (the ‘viva’) Should be an integrated overview of the student’s professional formation over the duration of their course.

Content of the Presentation growing awareness of professional identity including values, ethical and theological frameworks, boundaries and vocation synthesise a theoretical and theological underpinning for each of the six competences demonstrate integrated and contextual approach to professional and personal development and lifelong learning evidence an appropriate level of professional practice effective communication, analysis, problem solving, interventions and judgement

The Viva Questions from the LM and PPT Relates to the presentation and/or broader issues around the student’s professional development Around 20 minutes following the presentation Can be used to give student opportunity to demonstrate areas not fully covered in presentation Can be used to evaluate goals set during supervision Should not be used to raise issues that should have been dealt with in supervision

Marking Line Managers complete an assessment form. PPTs complete a separate assessment form and give an academic grade Assessment forms should be returned to the student in time for them to submit to College with their portfolio. This mark is 25% of the final grade.
