The Art of the Italian Renaissance Global History and Geography – 9 Sachem North High School

Italians were willing to spend a lot of money on art. Art communicated social, political and spiritual values. Wealthy merchants had the money to support the arts-patrons. Renaissance art reflected the new ideas of the time.

Characteristics of Renaissance Art Renaissance art focused on individuals and worldly matters, along with Christianity. Medieval art focused on the Church and salvation

Characteristics of Renaissance Art embraced some of the ideals of Greece and Rome subjects realistic and focused on humanity and emotion

Characteristics of Renaissance Art Perspective By making distant objects smaller than those close to the viewer, artists could paint scenes that appeared three dimensional.

Ideas reflected in Renaissance Art Secularism-focus on the earthly, the non-religious Humanism-the intellectual movement that focused on worldly subjects rather than on religious issues Individualism-the importance of the individual.
