Semicolons English Bellwork

English Bellwork- Monday, October 2 Directions: Write out ONE of the sentences. Then, create a rule about semicolons based on these sentences. 1. My sister’s hair is red; mine is blond. 2. My father’s ancestors came from Ireland; my mother’s ancestors were Swedish. 3. Genes come in pairs; we have one pair of genes for each of our physical characteristics. 4. One pair of genes determines the color of our hair; another pair determines the color of our eyes.

Use a semicolon between the clauses of a compound sentence that are not joined by a coordinating conjunction. 2. Use a semicolon to join clauses that are joined with conjunctive adverbs or transitional words. 3. Use semicolons to avoid confusion with commas.
