National Interests WHAT IS IN A NATION’S BEST INTEREST Security Interests borders, safety of citizens, relations with allies Economic Interests -standard of living, trade relations, economic growth Ideological Interests -support a way of life, promote a type of government, protect cultural and religious heritage of a nation

Geopolitical factors -What determines a nation’s level of power Location- hostile or friendly neighbors, surrounded by water Size –population, military, work force, resource, ability to survive a natural disaster Climate/Terrain – mountainous, desert, varied, “home field advantage” Natural Resources – diverse and independent, or dependent on others
