Economics The main way the colony sustained itself was TOBACCO Slaves planted, harvested, cured, and packaged tobacco. Slaves were used to keep tobacco coming. Wheat and Corn were also important crops. Slaves began dying out as diseases spread causing the money to decrease BUT this did not end slavery

Native American Affairs Many tribes lived in the vicinity of the Chesapeake colonies most of which spoke Algonquian No two tribes had the same culture each being individual in its own way The Colonist were not to friendly with the natives Ex: colonists tended to take their frustrations on the natives
Key People Nathaniel Bacon: the investigator of Bacon's Rebellion of 1676. Bacon was 29 years-old. Governor Berkeley: Berkeley's main focus was to encourage diversification of Virginia’s agricultural products. George Calvert: First lord baltimore. The father of Cecil Calvert (founder of Maryland.) John Smith: An English explorer, mainly helped early English colonists learn about the region. John Rolfe: an early English settlers of North America. Also came up with growing tobacco for the poor town.
