Lesson 22 – 3rd conjugation future tense Review Until this lesson the future tense has been indicated by the endings bo, bis, bit, bimus, bitis, bunt However this pattern of endings only holds true for the 1st and 2nd conjugation The 3rd conjugation, like all others, still uses the present stem i.e. 2nd principal part minus –re (e.g. ama-, doce-, mitt-)

Lesson 22 – 3rd conjugation future tense Confusion Onto the present stem 3rd conjugation verbs use the endings am, es, et, emus, etis, ent to show future action This can be confusing because these forms can resemble 2nd conjugation present tense 2nd conjugation, present 3rd conjugation, future doces – you teach mittes – you will send auget – he increases aget – she will drive debemus – we ought regemus – we will rule valetis – you are well ducetis – you will lead habent – they hold dicent – they will speak This is why it is imperative that you memorize a verb’s conjugation. Reminder- the 2nd principal part shows conjugation are 1st conjugation ēre 2nd conjugation ere 3rd conjugation ire 4th conjugation

Lesson 22 – 3rd conjugation future tense Forms 1st person ponam ponemus I will put we will put 2nd person pones ponetis you will put you will put 3rd person ponet ponent he will put they will put
