Review Tools will help you improve spelling and word choice. Introduction Review Tools will help you improve spelling and word choice.

Checking for Spelling Check Spelling words correctly is very important when writing. Google Docs scans your text. Possible spelling are indicated with a red underline.

Manually Run Spelling Check You can manually run a spelling check that takes you through every error.

Correcting Possible Errors Google Docs provides suggestions on how to correct spelling errors. To view the suggestions, right-click on the error. A pop-up menu appears with possible corrections. Most of the time you see only one option.

Handling Incorrectly Flagger Spelling Errors You have two options in the Spelling menu for dealing with a word that is spelled correctly, but is flagged as error. Add to Personal Dictionary Ignore All The selected word is added to your dictionary and is considered a valid spelling in all Google documents. The selected word is considered a valid spelling and won’t be flagged as an error in the document.   The ignore all option ONLY lasts as long as you have Google Docs open. If you close the document and reopen it, the errors that you ignored before are indicated as errors again. You only need to add words to your dictionary if you think it will be used in other documents or you have a large document that you will be opening a lot. Otherwise, just ignore the word.

Check the Whole Document As a final check, you can run the spelling check on the whole document. This looks through the whole document for possible spelling errors. This is a good thing to do incase you missed an error.

Define Tool Right click on a word and then click Define. Displays a definition of the word and also, shown its synonyms. Synonyms are words with similar meanings. They can be used to improve word choice in a document.

Summary In this lesson you: Use the Spelling tool Use the Define tool Define synonyms
