Literacy in Year 1

We are reading the Greek Myth ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’

We will:. Listen to and enjoy the story We will: *Listen to and enjoy the story *Answer questions about the characters, the setting and the plot *Act out parts of the story *Learn the story through Talk 4 Writing *Practice writing to improve our character descriptions (using adjectives) and our characters actions (using verbs) *Practise writing joining with and *Write part of the story in our own words

National Curriculum Requirements Statutory requirements: Explain clearly their understanding of what is read to them Participate in discussion about what is read to them, taking turns and listening to what others say Predict what might happen on the basis of what has been said so far Use some descriptive language, e.g. colour, size, simple emotion Use words appropriate for and related to the task

We enjoyed listening to the story

We acted out parts of the story by doing drama

We took part in retelling the story by creating a story map…

..then added actions to the story.
