Volume 4, Issue 2, Pages 81-86 (June 1997) Effects of compression stockings on blood pressure and its orthostatic change in female subjects  Keiko Tezuka, Chieko Sugishita, Tomoyuki Kuwaki, Makoto Higurashi, Mamoru Kumada  Pathophysiology  Volume 4, Issue 2, Pages 81-86 (June 1997) DOI: 10.1016/S0928-4680(97)00161-2

Fig. 1 Histogram representing frequency distribution of systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 82 non-hypertensive female subjects examined in the present study. SBP was determined by an automatic ambulatory pressure recording system (ABPM-630, Nippon Colin, Japan). Pathophysiology 1997 4, 81-86DOI: (10.1016/S0928-4680(97)00161-2)

Fig. 2 Changes in systolic blood pressure (∠SBP) associated with transition of posture with and without wearing compression stockings. Position of the body is shown at the bottom. ∠SBP is calculated as the difference in SBP from the initial supine SBP. 82 subjects were divided into the following three groups by the magnitude of orthostatic SBP change: group I, ∠SBP≥20 mmHg; group II, 20 mmHg>∠SBP≥0 mmHg; and group III, 0 mmHg>∠SBP. In all the three groups the absolute value of ∠SBP immediately after standing was reduced significantly by wearing the stockings. *P<0.05, **P<0.01. (Paired t-test).
