Instructions: Today we are examining the four causes of World War I: Why do you think wars start? In your groups, you will be given a set of readings. First task: READ Your job is to match the primary source with the historical event it describes. Once you have completed this task, use your readings to answer the questions.

What was “the spark”? Do you think Gavrilo Princip got off easy only being sentenced to prison? What does the primary source add to the story?

How did alliances lead to war?

Think back to last unit: what were motives for imperialism?
